About Tianna McHenry
Tianna McHenry is a US based interdisciplinary and conceptual artist. She has a BFA with a concentration in Illustration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
At a young age, portraiture and figurative work fascinated her. Tianna began her artistic journey collecting portraits from magazines and re-creating them with charcoal and pencil. In college, she explored new mediums and gravitated to painting. Further exploration allowed her to try out even more mediums like fibers and film. The goal was to find the best medium to solve this artistic problem.
Reoccurring themes within her works are the Romantic period’s ideology surrounding Nature and the Sublime, catharsis, relational dynamics between humans and semantics. Tianna studies the metaphysical nature of how people relate to themselves and the world around. Using personal anecdotes and interactions with others, she creates works that explore those human experiences. Attempting to fully understand its complexities, she views the depths of mankind as one of the beautiful and scariest things to witness.
Through her artistic practice, Tianna hopes to give the audience space and courage to reflect and examine their various emotional and mental complexities, even if it is for a moment or for a lifetime.
